From speech and dialect recognition systems to automated decision-making software, a wide variety of technologies will be used and tested in migration and asylum procedures. These tools can assist streamline bureaucratic processes and expedite decisions, benefitting governments and some migrant workers, but they also make new vulnerabilities that require new governance frames.
Refugees confront numerous obstacles as they try to find a safe house in a new country, just where they can build a lifestyle for themselves. To achieve this, they need to own a protect way of proving who they are in order to access interpersonal services and work. Additionally, it enables them to generate savings and assets, so that they can become self-sufficient.
Other technology tools will help boost refugees’ employment potential customers by coordinating them with complexes where they are going to flourish. Germany’s Match’In job, for instance, uses an algorithm fed with relevant info on hold municipalities and refugees’ specialist experience place them in places that they are likely to find careers.
But such technologies could be subject here to privateness concerns and opaque decision-making, potentially resulting in biases or errors which can lead to expulsions in violation of overseas law. And moreover to the hazards, they can create additional obstacles that stop refugees coming from reaching the final destination : the safe, welcoming region they aspire to live in.
